GMB: Amada Knox slams Meredith Kercher’s lawyer

Amanda Knox has hit back at Miranda Kercher’s family lawyer in a live interview on Good Morning Britain after he branded her upcoming memoir as “disrespectful and inappropriate”. Amanda, 37, was wrongful convicted of Meredith’s murder in 2007 after the exchange student was found dead in their shared apartment in Perugia.

She spent almost four years in prison before her release, while she was definitely acquitted an Italian court in 2015. The now-activist appeared on Good Morning Britain today to promote her new memoir, in which she speaks about surviving prison and the process of reintegrating into society, speaking to hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid.

However, towards the end of the live interview, her new book was branded as “disrespectful” by Francesco Maresca – the lawyer for Meredith Kercher’s family.

Reading out his statement, Susanna said: “‘It seems the initiatives of Knox continue to be inappropriate and disrespectful towards the memory of Meredith. It’s evidence that for Knox, the Perugia trial continues to be a source of income and a series of opportunities to maintain her name in the media.

“‘Mrs. Knox after so many years should respect the silence and memory.’ How do you respond to that?”

Amanda soon hit back at the lawyer, telling GMB: “I would say that he’s a hypocrite honestly as someone who has benefitted not just off of the work of the case but also on writing his own book, I think Mr. Moresca can very politely keep his opinions to himself.

“I think that I don’t really care what Mr. Moresca thinks, to be frank.”

Earlier this week, Amanda revealed that the spirit of Meredith still haunts her to this day. She told the Guardian: “Meredith is like this ghost sitting on my shoulder who fought for her life and didn’t succeed, who is telling me to fight for my life.

“I know that’s not what people like to hear. Some people think that her identity disappears next to my identity. And, again, I don’t blame people for having that idea. She became the footnote of a story where I was the central figure.”

She also told People magazine that she feels “haunted” by Meredith. “Not in that bad way that people sort of project onto me,” she said. “More in this benevolent spirit who is reminding me of the value of life, the privilege it is to live and the privilege it is to fight for your life. Because she fought for hers.”
