Gavin & Stacey bosses Ruth Jones and James Corden will once again join forces just months after the BBC aired the final ever episode of the sitcom on Christmas Day

James Corden and Ruth Jones are set to work together again after the finale of Gavin & Stacey. The creative minds behind the hit BBC sitcom, are set to discuss their new book and share insights into the creation of the hit show at the Hay Festival this spring.

In anticipation of their upcoming book, When Gavin Met Stacey And Everything In Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship, they will delve into the origins of the sitcom, its phenomenal success, and its record-breaking Christmas special.

The duo will also reflect on their 25-year friendship and professional partnership at the festival, scheduled for Friday, May 23. The BBC series chronicles the long-distance romance between Essex-based Gavin Shipman and Stacey West from Wales.

The book follows the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special and finale, which achieved the highest Christmas Day ratings since 2008, according to the BBC, with a staggering 12.3 million viewers tuning in overnight. Some 19.3 million people had seen the episode in the eight days up to January 2, according to the BBC.

A total of 17.9 million people saw the 2019 Gavin & Stacey Christmas Day episode, according to Barb’s official seven-day ratings. At the time of the viewing figures being released, Corden and Jones said: “We are completely overwhelmed by the audience response to our show and to these astonishing viewing figures.

Sadly, the pair confirmed that following the broadcast of the Christmas Day episode last year, there would be no more episodes of the fan favourite, leaving many completely heartbroken.

“Gavin & Stacey really does belong to the audience and we are beyond thrilled that so many people enjoyed watching it this Christmas.” Transworld Publishers, a division of Penguin Random House, previously hinted that the book will “recount the rejection, obstacles and challenges they faced on the way to giving birth to their beloved comedy creation”, and “James and Ruth also explore the flourishing of their own real-life friendship”.

Julie Finch, Global Chief Executive of the Hay Festival, expressed her delight, stating: “We are delighted to welcome James Corden and Ruth Jones together on the Hay Festival 2025 programme for a joyful discussion about friendship, creativity and perseverance.

“After dominating the TV schedule with the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special, it feels like the perfect moment to hear them on the art of screenwriting, storytelling in collaboration, and Wales’ cultural impact.”

Corden and Jones had previously published the book Gavin & Stacey: From Barry To Billericay in 2008, a year after the show’s inception. Their new book, When Gavin Met Stacey And Everything In Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship, is slated for release on October 16, 2025. The pair will also lend their voices to the audiobook version.

This year’s Hay Festival boasts an impressive line-up, including actor Sir Stephen Fry, The Good Place’s Jameela Jamil, artist Sir Grayson Perry, and Succession writer Jesse Armstrong.

TV presenters Stacey Dooley and Lorraine Kelly will also be gracing the festival, alongside chef Yotam Ottolenghi and singer Paloma Faith. The Hay Festival, now in its 38th spring edition, takes place in Hay-on-Wye, Wales, featuring over 600 events spread across 11 days, from May 22 to June 1.
