Jamie Laing has finished his Ultra-Marathon Challenge for Comic Relief in tears, with the star crossing the finish line despite facing injury along the way. The radio presenter and former Made in Chelsea star has raised over £1 million so far after committing to complete five Ultra-Marathons back-to-back.

The star started the challenge on Monday in London before finishing in Salford, despite having never run a 10K before let alone one marathon. Speaking on the radio, Jamie said straight afterwards: “That was a wild ride everyone. It was intense at times, it was emotional. I’ve never cried more in my life.

“I can’t explain to you the last kilometre was the most euphoric thing I’ve ever had. It’s been a really hard day today, there were so many ups and downs. At one point I thought I was down-and-out, mentally I was broken. Something pulled me out and we had this last moment here.”

He added: “I can only imagine it’s like scoring a goal in the World Cup. It was euphoric.” He later admitted to his co-host Vick Hope: “I think I can finally say it – I’m proud.”

The 36-year-old found the energy to sprint in the last leg of the ultra-marathon challenge, which has seen Jamie run 150 miles over the course of five days. He started at the BBC’s studios in London on Monday and finished in Salford, Manchester – however it’s been a tough journey for the former reality star.

Choking up during an interview with a BBC Radio 1 reporter, he said: “It’s emotionally draining and physically draining, and it’s amazing. If I’m being really honest, I’ve struggled with accepting love. So the love that comes in is pretty overwhelming. That’s probably my kryptonite.”

Meanwhile, Jamie was due to appear on ITV’s Lorraine this morning but was forced to pull out after falling behind in his progress in the challenge. “Jamie was supposed to be speaking to us but there are various issues going on right now,” Christine Lampard told viewers, with Lucie Cave adding: “We were hoping to speak to him at the end but he hasn’t quite made it yet. He’s been in real pain, very emotional and overwhelmed. He’s done an amazing job and he’s raised £1m so far. He’ll be so pleased with that.”

Fans rushed to support him on social media, with one person commenting “This has just been unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve listened to the radio all week without crying. What a legend this man is!”

Another person added: “It’s always wonderful to hear a man being so forward with his emotions. Jamie – you have been honourable in so many ways in this challenge.”
