The now King’s marriage to Princess Diana was the subject of much speculation and, despite it ending nearly three decades ago, remains a hot topic

King Charles found one aspect of his married life with Princess Diana “difficult to cope with”, according to a Royal expert.

Loose Women star Jane Moore encountered Princess Diana a number of times when she worked as a Royal correspondent. And now Jane described her as both “moody” and “mercurial”.

Jane shared these insights while chatting with fellow Loose Women panellist Sunetra Sarker on a recent podcast. They speculated about the role Diana might have played in the Royal Family had she not tragically died in a car crash 28 years ago.

Speaking about Diana’s personality, Jane observed: “She could be quite mercurial. One minute she’d be quite chitty chitty chat chat with you, and then if there was something that happened that she didn’t like, she would be very frosty.

“She was quite moody, I suppose, and I think that was what Charles found very difficult to cope with because she was a lot younger than him.”

While Charles has been happily wedded to the now Queen Camilla since 2005, his previous marriage to Diana continues to intrigue many, particularly following its portrayal in the recent seasons of The Crown, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

As time goes by, more intricate details about their tumultuous relationship appear to emerge. These include actions taken by Charles prior to his wedding to Diana when he was 32 and she was just 20.

In Andrew Morton’s revealing book ‘Diana: In Her Own Words’, it’s disclosed that Diana received a touching note from Charles on the eve of their wedding. She reminisced, “He sent me a very nice signet ring the night before to Clarence House, with the Prince of Wales feathers on and a very nice card that said: ‘I’m so proud of you and when you come up I’ll be there at the altar for you tomorrow.

“‘Just look ’em in the eye and knock ’em dead.” The following day, July 29, 1981, saw the Royal couple tie the knot at St Paul’s Cathedral in a grand ceremony broadcasted to 750 million viewers across 74 countries.

Reflecting on that day, Diana shared: “I remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. He was going to look after me.”

After 15 years together and two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, the couple eventually divorced on August 28, 1996. Discussing their relationship post-divorce with the Daily Express, historian and Royal commentator Marlene Koenig remarked: “I think they came to an understanding.

“I think she was aware that Camilla was the one and she wasn’t. But the thing was they actually met the day of the Decree Nisi, not the Absolute, and they actually talked and met and sat down and Diana told a reporter – and I remember this – after this she wished she could have made their love letters public because she knew Charles loved her in the beginning.

“But it was never meant to be. It was an arranged marriage.

“But they hadn’t had time to get to know each other, court each other. They learned a lot from that mistake.”
