Singer, Yungblud, told the Jonathan Ross show he thought Rod Stewart was his granddad when he was growing up, prompting an incredible reaction from the music icon

Sir Rod Stewart made a heartwarming gesture to singer, Yungblud, who thought the Scottish star was his ‘grandad’ when he was growing up. Yungblud, 27, made the revelation on the Jonathan Ross Show on the weekend when he explained that his nan used to tell him that the Sailing star, 76, was part of the family.
Sharing the bizarre anecdote with Ross’ audience, he said: “All my life growing up, my nan told me that Rod Stewart was my grandad. Flat out, right. She used to bathe me in a footbath and tell me that my grandad was Rod Stewart. We’d dance around in the kitchen [listening to Rod Stewart] and she’d say: ‘This is your grandad, this is your grandad’… And I fully believed it ‘cos I was a child.”

Admitting he was then mortified to find out the truth when he took one of Rod’s CDs to the bemused supermarket checkout cashier, after naively asking his nan: “When are we going to meet Grandad?”, Yungblud shared the Scot’s heartwarming response to his story.
Revealing he’d been given a bottle of “pretty good whiskey” by the rocker, who has four actual grandchildren, he said: “He sent me a DM on Instagram. He was like: “Alright me wee Grandson?” Then he sent me a bottle of his whiskey, which was pretty good actually!”
The ITV audience was in fits of laughter when Yungblud described his shock after bagging one of Rod’s CDs in the “bargain section” in Asda only to be laughed at by the checkout staff when he proudly told them the star was his relative.
Recalling the moment, he said: “I was like ‘Oh wow! Look at his leopard suits, I wan to be like that one day!’ And then we were in Asda – I was about nine, ten years old – and in the bargain section there was a Rod Stewart ‘Greatest Hits’ CD – Sorry Rod, but it was there… And I’m like ‘Nan, when am I going to meet Grandad?’
Yunglud continued: “Got the CD out, proper quivering lip. And now everyone at the checkout is cracking up… And that was the day I found out that Rod Stewart wasn’t my Grandad.”
The singer from Doncaster, who released his first self-titled album in 2018, also revealed he was given a present by another huge star.
Lifting the lid on an encounter with Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, he said: “He invited me to his show in Liverpool and he gave me a guitar as a present.”
Explaining his was “escorted backstage at Anfield”, he continued: “I’m kind of like, escorted backstage at Anfield Stadium. That’s wild innit ‘cos you can hear the crowd and that. I walk into his room and he is exactly what he’s like on the tele… proper Jagger, man.”
The artist also spoke about the return of his own-curated festival, Bludfest, due to be held on 21st June at The National Bowl, Milton Keynes.
When asked about his motivation behind ensuring the festival’s affordable price point, he said: “I thought it needed to represent a new idea and new generation. Gigs at the minute are so extortionately expensive”.
