Strictly Come Dancing stars were forced to cancel their performance moment before they were due on stage. Professional dancers Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez left fans gutted with the announcement.

They are currently on tour with their own show, yet had to issue a statement just before their performance on Thursday evening. Karen and Gorka revealed they had to make the tough decision to pull the plug on the show.

They told fans were were “upset and disappointed” by the decision but had to follow through due to safety concerns. Just before their show at Cheltenham’s Town, the pair said: “We are so upset to have the curtain pulled down on tonight’s show.

“We have been in the venue all afternoon with technical difficulties which have posed real safety concerns and have tried everything we can to be able to go on stage tonight.”

They added: “Of course the safety of our company comes first and this decision is beyond our control. We hope to see you very soon. The venue will be in touch with ticket holders.

“We are as disappointed as you are. K & G.” Fans shared their disappointment and frustration at the show being cancelled so close to its start time.

One fumed: “GUTTED. Got to the theatre to see Speakeasy and it’s been cancelled last minute!!! My birthday ruined.” Another added: “Us too got the email when we were at the pizza restaurant.”

Someone else commented: “This is such a shame.” Karen and Gorka are due on stage again tonight as they head to Ipswich’s Regent theatre as part of their Speakeasy tour.

It is not the first time the pros have caused upset with fans, as Karen pulled out of the meet and greets earlier this month. Some fans who booked meet and greet tickets for the show were sent an email which stated that “due to scheduling difficulties”, Karen would no longer be able to appear at the meet and greets before the show.

One frustrated fan shared the email about her meet and greet at the Bath venue, which read: “Due to scheduling difficulties, Karen Hauer is unable to participate in the Speakeasy Meet and Greet, but Gorka Marquez will be your host for this exclusive and up close and personal experience.”

For £84.37 (£75.00 plus booking fees) in addition to a ticket for the show, fans have been promised an “exclusive chance to make your Speakeasy experience something you will never forget!”

Strictly fans took social media to share their disappointment, with some saying they were asking for a part refund as they had booked the meet and greet thinking they would see two Strictly Come Dancing professionals.

Karen missed the meet and greet in York as well, and earlier in the day, she had shared snaps of her in the city enjoying a coffee at a shop that served their drinks in edible cups.

Both Karen and Gorka were out enjoying their day in the summer sunshine, and one of her colleagues also shared a video of her lying on one of the props boxes backstage at the venue before everyone arrived.

The show will culminate with a special West End gala performance on April 15 at the iconic Adelphi Theatre in London.
